Variable Valve Timing & Lift Electronic Control (VTEC)
The VTEC™ system, which optimises power and efficiency at all engine speeds, was born out of Honda’s passion for racing. Innovations like these are now available inside many Honda outboards. Developed for high performance engines, VTEC varies the lift and duration of the intake valves to provide optimum performance at both low and high RPMs. VTEC delivers smooth stable idling at low speeds, while increasing valve lift at higher speeds, which broadens the torque curve and top end power.
Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST)
Honda’s revolutionary BLAST™ technology provides strong hole shot performance, getting the hull on the plane quicker. This air/fuel ratio and ignition-timing technology boosts engine torque at low RPM under rapid acceleration conditions. It’s NMEA compatible, meaning all engine data including speed, fuel consumption, cruising distance, etc can be displayed on the GPS screen.
BFP60 Power Thrust
The BFP60 variant offers ‘Power Thrust’ – the engine has a bigger gear case and larger diameter propeller. This ultimately results in greater thrust and is particularly useful for commercial/big boat applications. This is available in remote control configuration, so you can spend more time at the front of your boat checking out the scenery. Power Thrust also increases charging power, with a multi-pole AC generator (ACG) which provides an impressive 22amp of battery charging capacity – that’s ample power for onboard marine electronics, live bait tanks and any other equipment you might take out onto the water with you.
Multi-function tiller handle
The BF60s multi-function tiller handle incorporates a power trim-tilt switch in the throttle grip, so the operator can trim the engine while underway and remain completely focused on the water. It also has a reversible shift lever, which can be mounted on the left or right side.
Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI)
Honda’s renowned Programmed Fuel Injection is controlled by an advanced Engine Control Unit (ECU). Engine sensors precisely control the supply of fuel to the engine, providing easy starting, instantaneous throttle response and superior fuel economy.
Lean Burn Control
Honda’s Lean Burn Control technology, ECOmo, permits combustion to operate on a leaner air/fuel ratio. Sensors precisely measure the air/fuel mixture, ensuring best fuel economy in cruising mode.
Trolling control
Trolling Control is available from BF40 – BF150 & BF200-250 (DBW only). Available on selected Honda outboards, engine speed can be controlled in increments of 50RPM from idle speed to 1000RPM/1100RPM (model dependent). A switch required to activate this feature is available through your authorised Honda Marine dealer as an optional accessory.
